Paris, Tokyo

January 30, 2008

Were here.

 Me and Fran

Actually were still in Auckland in this shot. Err.

I Cant believe it, after a not-so-bad 10.5 hour flight me and fran flew down over a dark and surprisingly New Zealand-like farmland, into Tokyo, Narita Airport.

Me too tho.

The name was actually pretty deceptive, the airport was a good 2 hours bus ride, from Tokyo city center.

We got off the plane around 4:30pm in Narita. Customs took less then ten minuets to get through which was great, and me and Franny jumped on the phone to Thomas; Our host over here, and into a bus right through the city.

Hai Mushimushi!

We were real careful to watch our bags.

It was pretty much already night and it was freezing cold. 7 degrees!

It was absolutely amazing. Better then I had even thought it was all going to be. Everything amazes me, the water running under fifty meter high motorways through the middle of the city, the vending machines on every single corner, the way that high class adverts are sold with crazy anime characters.

Chilln in Kichijyoji

Me and Franny were incredibly content just waiting on the side of the road in Kochijyoji bus station for Thomas to pick us up.

Thomas and his wife Suzuka, who we are staying with are also really brilliant.  We had a delicious dinner with them, the name of which I forgot. Thomas also ran us through all the train and bus info for getting around which is great. The whole day and night was one of the best in me and Frans lives.

Franny and Nami; Thomas and Suzukas little girl have been hanging out a bit and one night this week we are going to baby sit for them which will be fun!

Today we got up around nine, had breakie and headed out on  a bus back to Kichijyoji for a stroll round the streets.

The bus and me…

Theres been so much to see and our trip out of Tokyo is taking shape in a new way then we had planned. But me and Fran are both loving it here. Its completely non-Threatening and Its SO MUCH FUN!

Safe and sound in Tokyo.

so until next time, love from me and francesca.

Countdown and A couple of sidenotes

January 26, 2008

So I switched up the uncompromising Live Journal for WordPress.com – Re: Ilai’s suggestion.

Already it has a certain charm to it. Let me know what you guys think, but it seems like perfect platform for the online slide-show of my trip. Even better, it has mobile phone accessibility! Readme on the run – !

So its now only 3.75 Days (That’s 83 Hours and 25 short, sweet minuets.) until I’m off. My list of ‘To-Dos’ is steadily shrinking which is a good sign, but I still have the epic task of deciding what to wear on my entrance to Tokyo.

On a no-less self-involved note; I’m Thinking of having a day away from the city tomorrow morning (through to evening) – Driving down to Thames. Jumping off a ridiculously high rock. I’m really looking forward to it – but the planning is something that, as per usual, is proving an issue. I’ll let you know how it all goes and upload any pictures that I take down there.

Yesterday was Francesca’s Birthday, and she had a great day – her dinner party at the Genjis Local went down nicely despite a fairly awkward start, involving some abstract art with the table arrangement. There were fairly lights aplenty and guests of all ages, and a big pink cake – Feast your eyes…

Mingle Mingle

It was a really good time. Family, Friends, Speeches, Dirty Wineglasses and an incredible cake all made for a nice celebration. Once it was all over me and Francesca snuck away to see the steady-cam-heavy “Cloverfield”.

So without betraying any of the inescapable, monster-evasive advertising; the film is a rather fresh take on the horror genre. it is clearly constructed out of the pieces of films such as Dawn of the Dead and The Blair Witch Project.

Codename “Cloverfield” is a survival story of what happens when some sort of monster stumbles over NYC. Told on a very personal level. Me and Fran were both on the edge of our seats through most of the movie. That was the best part of it in all honesty. The climactic peaks of the film actually didn’t work so well – the mysterious monster had much more effect as a shadow in the dark. Go see it though, until I get around to seeing Sweeny Todd this is sitting at the top of my rather tame “currently showing film list”.

I also received a couple of pieces of jewelry that a friend of mine from Australia sent over. Thankfully, it arrived just in time for me to take it with me overseas. Both pieces look great and have become my fav’s. I’ll show you all what they are about in my next entry.

And that about raps it up for now.

Tune in next time for more on movies, my interests and my trip!

Blog Entry: 0001

January 25, 2008

Hey everyone,

In a measly seven days I will be jetting off around the globe to the orient. Where I will snap away thousands of pictures and live a thousand stories that I will be dying to tell, and show (reverse-retrospectively) all of you back at home, so I thought it was quintessential that I began my very own online diary, or “blog’, if you will…

So this is it!

Of course being my first entry I’m still working out the kinks and it may not be a work of art, but ill try to make things a little interesting for anyone taking the time to read up on my adventures.

Right now I’m just having a breather after a humongous day of work and wharf-jumping. Anyone who hasn’t spoken to me since late November won’t know, but I have been working as a production runner on ‘Underworld 3’. To say its a blockbuster may be a slight stretch, but the film definitely has a few familiar faces in it. I’m having an amazing time, its busy as hell and the hours are lengthy but its the first job that I have felt so at home with.

Its actually like the first year at a new school. In a good way…

Anyway that is all about to go on pause for a month while I head off with Francesca to Japan and California! ! !!

Definitely the most difficult thing about the run up to my trip has been saving my money. When your income goes up, generally your expenditure follows rather rapidly, but in my case; that couldn’t happen or there wouldn’t be any trip to blog about – So instead my wish list has taken its rapid inflation whole heartedly.
A couple of my most recent object obsessions have been as follows:

Sancho
Sancho the Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) interpretation of Don Quixote’s classic side-kick Sancho Panza.
Officially my most wanted toy since the 300th Edition Boba Fett I got my hands on in Armageddon 2002.Cement Friends
This amazing little graphic novel –

Cement Friends Looks Magic

Cement Friends is Magic

Providing much inspiration for me.

And so that is where I will leave it. I’ll hit LJ WP again for a follow-up sometime in the mad scramble before I crawl out of bed Tue morn to get to the airport.Bye Bye

Hello world!
